Scientology is a Pseudoscience

Psychiatry is not. What a shame Tom Cruise hasn't the intelligence or education to read and understand any of the scientific literature affirming that science is indeed real, and that psychiatry does exist as a respected and multi-faceted medical field. I imagine he relies on secondary and tertiary sources who already have an anti-psychiatry agenda for his opinions.

Psychiatrists make mistakes in judgment from time to time, just like anyone else does. Psychiatric medication is not for everyone, and in general should be a last resort; but that does not mean it cannot be useful for some people in some circumstances. People must be allowed the dignity to make their own mistakes and to learn from them.

Why Scientologists show up outside of professional psychiatry assocation meetings to protest and hand out uninformed flyers that make them seem even more preposterous is beyond me. Why not address the epidemic of child abuse? let me guess--maybe child abuse is...i don't know--a figment of our imagination, according to the "Church"? and perhaps cancer is a state of mind; alzheimer's an attitude problem, and multiple sclerosis a form of shame? wonderful. while we're at it, let's just dispense with scientific research altogether. after all, dianetics can fix anything. i can't wait to hear Tom Cruise's cure for bird flu!

I'm really curious about why, out of all the issues in the world, Scientology chooses to focus on psychiatry. Whence the vehement opposition? Does this not indicate that the "Church" feels threatened by it in some way? Did L. Ron Hubbard have a bad experience with the mental health establishment?

This is a man who "created" a "religion" based on science fiction novels, so perhaps his mental health should have been called into question. He started this irrational madness, and his "Church" attracts people who subscribe to the illusion that life can be lived without help from anyone, ever, under all circumstances.

Kirstie Alley credits Scientology's copycat organization "Narconon" (which sounds deceptively like the twelve step program "Narc-Anon") for helping her kick cocaine, but her addiction switched to food. The problem was not ultimately solved. Self will and pseudoscience do not a sober drug user make.

Tom Cruise purchased his own sonogram machine for Katie Holmes? Why? What's wrong with going to a reputable clinic? Does he doubt the entire medical establishment?

And what on earth happened to Katie Holmes? Where is this all going? That's for another day, though.
