Crowded House at Studio 8H
this is terribly subjective, so please don't leave comments about how much you hate it now or how much better it was back when...i probably already agree with you.
My point is that there are so many new people (Bill Hader) that older cast members like Will Forte and Seth Myers get lost in the shuffle, even though they have plenty to contribute. Andy Samberg has somehow taken a Jimmy Fallon-like lead in his very first season.
And the leading ladies (Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch) finally have some competition, with the arrival of the first new female cast member in a long time. She did a painfully hilarious send-up of Judy Garland several episodes back. I wonder if that means Tina Fey is leaving, as so many have speculated. Speaking of female talent, I have never seen Rachel Dratch so under-used as she has been this past season. A real loss, in my opinion.
At least Finesse Mitchell accepts that he's having a rough time and makes fun of it. Kenan Thompson somehow took off from the get-go, while Finesse hasn't brought much to the table--that Lorne has liked, anyway.
Can I say how absolutely dreadful Nelly Furtado is on this show (the season finale)? It's downright painful, and I have absolutely no idea what happened since her debut album. Embarrassingly bad. A combination of Shania Twain at her cheesiest, Kylie Minogue at her campiest, and a dreadful send-up of JLo without any of the talent or conviction. Lopez can pull off the "I'm hot as sh*t" act but Furtado absolutely cannot and should go back to her own, more funky and less overtly sexy style. She looks like a "Miss America" cast-off at a miserably bad dress rehearsal, or, more accurately, failed audition.
I think many women in the entertainment industry are so anxious to shake their pregnancy pounds and "fat" image that they over-do the return, lose too much weight, show off too much skin, etc. Maybe that's a piece of it. Furtado seems to have started listening to all the wrong people, style-wise. Beyonce pulled off a sexier image when she left "Destiny's Child," but Furtado has absolutely not pulled off an attempt to rev up her image.
