A Hush Fell Over Britain

When Diana died. We just saw "The Queen," which is about the current queen of England's struggle to come to terms with Princess Diana's popularity in Britain. Movie was okay, but what comes to mind is that when I was in the Sahara desert, in Tunisia, staying with some Bedouin, they not only knew her name (she'd done lots of mine-clearing work in Africa) but they actually had songs about her! They don't speak Arabic; they speak a Berber language of some kind.

I was in London when Princess Di died. My parents, sis and I were leaving the next back to come back to the USA. I remember how quiet and erry it was in the hotel lobby.
