P.S. our fax machine must be in cahoots with the washing machine; neither is working, so I'm harrumphing over to das post office to mail my application, and then to Trader Joe's to complain about the soggy Persian-style cucumbers they sold me yesterday :-(.

Larry King has dyed his hair a terrible shade of red/brown, leaving gray streaks. He looks even creepier than usual. Lou Dobbs dyed his hair too, and it's so obvious as to be distracting.

"Lullaby and Goodnight" when i was a kid, i had a mobile that played Johannes Brahms' lullaby. i can still hear it in my mind, sometimes, and i thought i'd share it with you. Speaking of things German, we eat our meals these days with a new foreign student, named Stephan. He is from Bavaria. He wants to go to a "real American sandwich shop" while he's here, and Lorien will take him to Berkeley to go clothes shopping. Very entertaining. Nice to have some "fresh blood," though it's really interesting getting to know Liz, who is a well-spoken piano player with a marvelous sense of humor. Reality check from just outside the barbed wire-covered gates of the college: sirens at 12:40am, gunshot at 12:50am. 9 gunshots in rapid succession at 1:30am. My paper is closer and closer to being finished. Must get up for midterm tomorrow!

Trimming the Fat

weeding through my entire blog--there are almost 1400 posts! quality over quantity; getting rid of stuff that seems irrelevent or misplaced or superfluous or otherwise dissatisfactory. saw a great documentary on the History Channel today about Hitler's family. turns out there are still a few living in the US! they've also had a good series on the SS, but, most importantly, tomorrow night they start the entire " Band of Brothers " series! i never tire of watching it. literally! i'm 15 pounds lighter with muscle to boot. can't believe it. cutting sugar and flour really works. started bob tonight, just love it. i'd like to get the soundtrack. dentist on friday. i'd like to get my blog to about 1000 posts. quite time consuming. turning in is the answer, not out. growth, expansion, new life. it's about time. i am so stale, and i can hardly breathe in here. the window hasn't been open for ages, and i cannot feel fresh air on my face or see the out...
